November 2010 monitoring

November 10 – beautiful fall weather, if slightly warmer than normal for this time of year.  No significant rain recently, so it was no surprise how low the flow is. And lots of algae, both on the surface and under the water.  Plus, sadly, a lot of trash both in the stream and on the banks.

Dissolved oxygen was good, 6.8 and the pH is normal at 7.0.  Water temp was 18 C (64 F) and air temp was 25 C (77 F) and the specific conductance is 540.

One thing that continues to be unusual given the lack of rain is the discharge from the storm drain. It continues to be significant, rather than the expected trickle. And this time we smelled a slight but distinct sewage odor coming from the storm drain inlet (just above the sidewalk).  Sure seems like a broken pipe somewhere.
